History

We can go the distance cause we are right on track!

Mitchell Equipment Corporation has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1978. Initially, the company specialized in manufacturing attachments for cranes, including rail threaders, railcar coupler attachments, and crane wheel grab attachments.

In the 1980s, a significant milestone was reached with the development of the Friction Drive Rail Gear system for rough terrain cranes. This innovative system was later adapted for front-end loaders, accompanied by the introduction of 180° swing loader attachments, capable of accepting various accessories such as buckets, forks, grapples, magnet systems, couplers, and train air brake systems. This marked the inception of Mitchell Equipment's Rail Gear systems, consisting of Rail Gear and specialized railroad attachments. Notably, this era saw the creation of the One-Man Gang for backhoe loaders, an innovative system.

In 1985, at Remsa in Dallas, Texas, Mitchell introduced hydraulic Rail Gear for track inspection trucks, a groundbreaking development that has since become the industry standard in North America.

Moving into the 1990s, Mitchell Equipment extended its Rail Gear systems to a diverse range of vehicles, including trucks, loaders, cranes, skidders, and backhoes, along with the continuous development of various attachments. In 1999, the company achieved a significant breakthrough with the creation of a patented wheel adapter system designed to work with off-the-shelf Accuride rims. This invention addressed a crucial challenge in the industry, improving the ride quality of railroad trucks.

Fast forward to 2024, Mitchell Equipment Corporation boasts an extensive product lineup, featuring the Flexiride Rail Gear for Trucks, Friction Drive Hi-Rail Gear for construction equipment, and hydraulic Rail Gear for construction equipment. On the construction equipment front, the company offers comprehensive systems that encompass the machine, hi-rail components, and attachments. Notably, their truck systems are now distributed worldwide, solidifying Mitchell Equipment's global presence in the industry.
